Tractor plants corn seed around solar photovoltaic panels

New research aims to optimize farmland use for crops, solar electricity production

Purdue professors are questioning what else fertile farmland can be used for with a new multidisciplinary project researching how to improve future sustainability by simultaneously using crop fields for solar electricity production. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Sustainable Food, Energy and Water Systems research project is scheduled for today (Aug. 12) at Purdue’s Beck Agricultural Center.

Twitter ‘fingerprint’ helps decode how individuals respond to crises

Often in the case of a disaster, there are too few resources available to the community. A new algorithm analyzes individuals’ tweets to better understand how they respond to crises, offering a new way to inform decisions on disaster management. “The algorithm would be a useful tool for informing long-term recovery from a disaster and knowing where to prioritize investment or attention,” said Purdue's Roshi Nateghi.
