Purdue United Way Campaign needs pledges soon to make goal
Purdue's 2016 United Way campaign is looking for a rush in participation to help it reach its goal of $770,134. Purdue campaign leaders hope to reach this year's goal by Wednesday (Nov. 16), but donations toward the 2016 campaign will be accepted through 4 p.m. Nov. 17. The campaign still needs $100,000 to reach its goal by the celebration event on Nov. 17.

Undergrads create energy-absorbing materials
Professor Pablo Zavattieri's research laboratory in the basement of Purdue's Hampton Hall of Civil Engineering looks like a toy shop or carpenter's workshop with its many geometric models. While seeming like toys or arts-and-crafts projects, these simple models help engineers test the shapes and designs and complex mechanics that will advance efforts for developing a new type of energy-absorbing material that might be 3D-printed. The energy and passion in this lab space comes from the vision and mission of Zavattieri's research goal -- as well as from a core of undergraduate students who are crucial members of this team.
