Purdue Student Union Board to pay tribute to veterans

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University will honor veterans Friday (Nov. 11) at a Veterans Day ceremony in the Purdue Memorial Union Great Hall.

The Purdue Student Union Board will host the tribute at 11 a.m. It will include "Presentation of the Colors" by the Purdue University Tri-service Color Guard, the Pledge of Allegiance, national anthem and patriotic songs by the Purduettes. A table of remembrance, moment of silence and three memorial volleys will take place at the tribute, which is free and open to the public.

Scheduled speakers are:

* Bob Mindrum, director of Purdue Memorial Union.

* Cindra Chastain, colonel in the U.S. Army and veterans outreach coordinator for the National AgrAbility Project at Purdue, speaking on "The Next Mission."

* Carla Hernandez, staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and a senior in the college of Liberal Arts studying political science, speaking on "There Are No Limits to What Women Can Do to Serve Our Country: It's What We Have Been Doing All Along."

* Mary Tilden, lieutenant colonel, retired, in the U.S. Marine Corps and adjunct instructor of sociology at Ivy Tech Community College-Lafayette, speaking on "The Changing Roles of Women in Military Service."

Following the tribute, there will be a variety of displays about veterans in the PMU East Main Lounge. Refreshments also will be provided.
