From fires, chemical spills and aircraft emergencies to medical issues and elevator rescues, the Purdue University Fire Department has been serving the West Lafayette campus for 50 years. Purdue is one of only a handful of higher education institutions in the country with their own fire department and the only full-service campus fire and emergency medical services department in the Big Ten.

ITaP has a new email header that will alert Purdue email account holders, including faculty, staff and students, to messages flagged as probable phishing scams.
Crews will be closing all lanes of Stadium Avenue on Tuesday (Jan. 21) from Russell Street westward to the service drive east of Tarkington Residence Hall in order to repair a chilled water leak.
Nominations are being accepted for the Flora Roberts Award (outstanding senior woman) and G.A. Ross Award (outstanding senior man) for 2014.
A long-standing policy related to flight upgrades changed on Jan. 1. With more focus being given to global research and learning, a recommendation has been approved to cease requiring a written exception for flight upgrades on international flights when the flight time (plus stopovers) exceeds 14 hours.

General news
Purdue announced Thursday (Jan. 16) the inception of the Presidential Lecture Series, a diverse new series of lectures on policy, leadership, culture and society. Two lectures are scheduled for the spring semester, and the series may also add speakers at various points during the year.
Tony Wagner, author of "Creating Innovators," will make an interactive presentation at 11 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 23) in Fowler Hall on the need for changes in the way students are taught at all levels of the education system. His talk serves as the kickoff event for the College of Technology's new Purdue Polytechnic Institute.
Funds are available to provide grants to students or student organizations for work on community service learning projects.
The Purdue University Retirees Association (PURA) is accepting nominations for the 2014 Arthur G. Hansen Recognition Award.
Research news
Researchers and software developers at the Purdue-led George E. Brown Jr. Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES) are building a data integration system that will allow seamless sharing of experimental data with earthquake engineers globally.

Dan Ross, PGA head professional at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex, has been named recipient of the inaugural PGA Player Development Award by the Indiana PGA.
Purdue fans are invited to attend the 2014 Purdue Football Recruiting Roundup on Feb. 5.
