Parkinson's boxing

'BTN LiveBIG' to feature uplifting Purdue initiatives

The Big Ten Network's top program about contributions to better living will air Wednesday (Jan. 15) with segments on Purdue initiatives -- one in research and one in engagement -- and promos of the segments are available on YouTube. "BTN LiveBIG" will be telecast at 11:30 p.m. One segment will look at a unique Parkinson's disease research effort in the College of Health and Human Sciences. The other will go behind the scenes of the nine-day Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities, conducted at Purdue by the Krannert School of Management.

"BTN LiveBIG" will run again at 12:45 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 16) and 2:15 p.m. Friday (Jan. 17). Tonight's debut follows BTN's telecast of the Purdue vs. Illinois men's basketball game at 9 p.m. and "Big Ten Finale" at 11 p.m.

'Inverse opal' structure improves thin-film solar cells

Researchers have shown how to increase the efficiency of thin-film solar cells, a technology that could bring low-cost solar energy. The approach uses 3-D "photonic crystals" to absorb more sunlight than conventional thin-film cells.
