WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University Center for Regional Development Director Lionel "Bo" Beaulieu is taking on additional duties as assistant director of Purdue Extension Economic and Community Development.

The appointment, effective Feb. 1, is intended to strengthen the working ties between Purdue Center for Regional Development, Extension ECD and Office of Engagement activities across campus. Purdue Extension Director Jason Henderson announced the appointment Monday (Jan. 13).

"Bo's national expertise in economic and community development and his ability to build strong relationships across a variety of institutions will help integrate Extension with economic and community development programming across the university," Henderson said. "Greater coordination of our campus-based Extension and research faculty and county Extension educators will enhance the development and delivery of innovative research-based economic and community development programs in Indiana and beyond."

Beaulieu will continue as professor in the department of agricultural economics.

Extension's Economic and Community Development provides Indiana citizens with educational programs and information to increase the vitality of their communities, build leadership, enhance decision-making and resolve public issues.

Scott Hutcheson, current assistant director of Purdue ECD, will serve as assistant program leader and retain his appointment as senior associate with the Purdue Center for Regional Development. He will work to strengthen and expand Extension's outreach to Indiana's local and regional economic development organizations.

"I want to thank Scott for his leadership with ECD and look forward to his continued expertise and service to Indiana's communities," Henderson said.

Beaulieu has been director of the Purdue Center for Regional Development since April 2013. The center helps communities and regions to discover their regional competitive strengths, foster regional partnerships that actively promote regional innovation, and guide the adoption of economic development approaches that complement and add value to their regions' economic assets.
