EnCORE Interactive Theatre

EnCORE Interactive Theatre shines light on diversity issues in academic settings

As an international student from China, Ji'ai Zhang has two deep but seemingly unrelated interests: theatre and bridging the cultural gap between American students and their Chinese counterparts.

Despite those interests' divergent natures, Zhang is pursuing both through her participation in enCORE Interactive Theatre, a Purdue acting troupe made up of eight students, including Zhang. The troupe, which is part of the Center for Instructional Excellence, regularly creates and performs scenes for Purdue faculty, staff and students.

Assistive technology available at most benefits enrollment walk-in labs

Thanks to collaboration between ITaP and Human Resources, assistive technology will be installed at most benefits open enrollment walk-in labs at the West Lafayette campus.

Today's benefit enrollment events

Today (Oct. 30) features three events:

  • Walk-in lab, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Freehafer Hall, Room 1-5.
  • "2014 Benefits Enrollment" presentations at 9-10 a.m. and 11 a.m.-noon in Stewart Center, Room 314.
  • Walk-in help session with voluntary benefit counselors, 1-5 p.m. Stewart Center, Room 314.
Visit www.purdue.edu/benefits/enroll.html for a schedule of live sessions and additional help. Open enrollment ends at 6 p.m. (ET) Nov. 15.

Purdue passwords now need to be changed less frequently due to policy change

Research shows that short password change cycles do not necessarily increase security. As a result, faculty, staff and students at Purdue will now need to change their career account passwords less frequently, due to a recent policy change.

ADVANCE Purdue's Gender and STEM Research Symposium on Nov. 13-14 will feature keynote speaker Peggy McIntosh of Wellesley Centers for Women and the play "Truth Values: One Girl's Romp Through MIT's Male Math Maze."

High nitrogen rates increase micronutrient uptake, storage in corn

A Purdue study shows that high-yielding, modern corn hybrids take up not only more nitrogen from soil but more micronutrients such as zinc, iron, manganese and copper. Nitrogen fertilizer rates also influence how much of these nutrients are stored in the grain at harvest.

Daniels to discuss future of higher education at National Competitiveness Forum

President Mitch Daniels today (Oct. 30) will be at the Council on Competitiveness' 2013 National Competitiveness Forum, which will bring together top public and private sector leaders to assess the state of the nation's competitiveness, and explore pressing and emerging priorities. Daniels will participate in a panel discussion on the future of higher education with Michael Crow, president of Arizona State University; John DeGioia, president of Georgetown University; and Pradeep Khosla, chancellor of the University of California, San Diego. The panel will be webcast at 10:30 a.m. at www.compete.org/ncf.

Purdue football to meet Ohio State

Game notes are available to preview the Purdue-Ohio State football matchup at noon Saturday (Nov. 2) at Ross-Ade Stadium. The game will air on the Big Ten Network.

Also, kickoff for Purdue's Nov. 9 home game against Iowa has been set for noon.

Men's basketball to open tonight with exhibition

The Purdue men's basketball team will tip off its season tonight (Oct. 30) with an exhibition matchup against NCAA Division II-member University of Indianapolis. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
