Yo-Yo Ma, Kathryn Stott to perform in sold-out Purdue show

October 29, 2013

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Virtuoso cellist Yo-Yo Ma, along with longtime collaborator pianist Kathryn Stott, will perform at 3 p.m. Nov. 17 at Purdue University's Loeb Playhouse. This performance, which is sold out, is presented by Purdue Convocations.

Cello virtuoso Yo-Yo Ma's multifaceted career is a testament to his continual search for innovative ways to communicate, and connect, with new audiences. From his classical base, Ma's journeys from minimalism to McFerrin, from Baroque to bluegrass and more have yielded more than 75 albums, more than 15 Grammys and status as one of the world's best-selling recording artists. Ma has performed for eight U.S. presidents, serves as a United Nations Messenger of Peace, and has received such prestigious awards as the Avery Fisher Prize, the National Medal of the Arts and Kennedy Center Honors.

Joining Ma for the Purdue concert is Kathryn Stott, his collaborator of nearly 30 years, who was hailed by The Washington Post as "every bit Ma's equal, playing … with striking individuality." Stott, a versatile performer of standard repertoire as well as new music, also is excels at tango and other Latin dance music, reflected in her collaboration with Ma and South American musicians on the Grammy-winning album "Soul of the Tango."

The performance will include pieces from Igor Stravinsky, Manuel de Falla, Johannes Brahms and more. The full program listed can be downloaded at http://www.convocations.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Yo-Yo-Program-11-17-13-Formatted.pdf
