Trustees OK support for engineering strategic plan, football coach appointment, IPFW housing contract

The Board of Trustees on Saturday (Dec. 20) voted to authorize the use of funds from the Vincent P. Reilly Memorial Fund to support several initiatives in the College of Engineering from 2009 to 2014. Trustees also ratified the appointment of Danny Hope as head football coach, effective Jan. 1, and approved a construction contract for the third phase of student housing on the Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne campus. Funds are available to provide grants to students or student organizations for work on community service learning projects. Purdue researchers will study the next generation of computer chips before they are even built using one of the most powerful supercomputers in the world. The U.S. Department of Energy awarded electrical and computer engineering Professor Gerhard Klimeck and colleagues 5 million computer hours under its INCITE -- Innovative and Novel Computational Impact on Theory and Experiment -- program. The program is open to all scientific researchers and research organizations, including industry. More

Economist: 'Blending wall' stands in way of ethanol growth

Ethanol production opened the door to the renewable fuels industry. The industry now must get past an imposing wall of federal regulations and market conditions if it hopes to grow, said a Purdue agricultural economist. More

Students in 6th to 8th grades invited to free after-school engineering program

Students in sixth through eighth grades can participate in one of two after-school engineering sessions next semester. The Innovation to Reality (I2R) program, sponsored by Purdue University's Women in Engineering Program, will focus on biosensors and alternative energy. More
