Students in 6th to 8th grades invited to free after-school engineering program

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Students in sixth through eighth grades can participate in one of two after-school engineering sessions next semester.

The Innovation to Reality (I2R) program, sponsored by Purdue University's Women in Engineering Program, will focus on biosensors and alternative energy. The program will let the students discover engineering through faculty speakers, lab tours and hands-on activities.

The biosensors session will run 4-6 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan.  14-Feb. 11. Participants will learn how biosensors affect their daily lives, how they are made and how they influence the medical field. Application deadline is Jan. 2.

The alternative energy session will run 4-6 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 12-March 12. Participants will learn how alternative energy is generated and how it affects our lives. Application deadline is Jan. 23.

Each session is limited to the first 25 students who apply. A $10 application fee is refundable if the program is completed.
