APSAC discusses collaborative efforts, professional development

The Administrative and Professional Staff Advisory Committee at its Dec. 10 meeting heard about goals selected for future collaboration with the Clerical and Service Staff Advisory Committee.

APSAC vice chair Cherry Delaney reported that the joint leadership committee of the two groups identified the following topics to move forward on together:

-- Medical: premium tiers, dental insurance, and retirement health benefits.

-- Professional development: training opportunities.

-- Visibility: pursuit of two separate non-voting seats in the University Senate. APSAC and CSSAC now share a Senate seat.

Delaney also reported on APSAC's involvement with the University-wide Training and Career Development Steering Committee headed by Human Resource Services. Four APSAC members serve on the steering committee, which is focusing on creating new training opportunities for staff and creating a central clearinghouse of existing training options.

Delaney said they will assist in organizing panel discussions featuring Purdue employees who have succeeded in furthering their careers on campus. APSAC members will talk to vice presidents, deans, department heads and others to identify staff for the panels, which are slated for the spring.

"If we find people who can talk about how they succeeded, I think it helps others to see the possibilities," Delaney said.
