Fighting pollution the poplar way: Trees to clean up Indiana site

Purdue researchers are collaborating with Chrysler LLC in a project to use poplar trees to eliminate pollutants from a contaminated site in north-central Indiana.

The researchers plan to plant transgenic poplars at the site, a former oil storage facility near Kokomo, Ind., this summer. In a laboratory setting, the transgenic trees have been shown to be capable of absorbing trichloroethylene, or TCE, and other pollutants before processing them into harmless byproducts. More

Purdue students who want to show off their academic knowledge and quick recall will be able to sign up to compete in the upcoming College Bowl competition. More

Purdue summer interns available for interviews

Purdue interns
Purdue University's Technical Assistance Program will refer as many as 100 of its summer interns to Indiana companies.

Employers can initiate the intern recruiting process by registering on the program's Web site at https://www.purdue.edu /TAP/intern or by calling the TAP office at (765) 496-9792. After registering, employers will receive resumes from qualified students. Purdue staff will assist with scheduling students for interviews through Friday, April 25. More

Purdue's VP for university relations to retire

Joseph L. Bennett, vice president for university relations at Purdue, on Thursday (Jan. 10) announced that he will retire June 30, in line with the university's mandatory retirement policy for senior administrators. More
