Purdue appoints interim assistant director for PMO

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Gerritt VanderMeer has been named interim assistant director of Purdue Musical Organizations and interim director of the Purdue Varsity Glee Club, effective immediately.

VanderMeer is a professional entertainer and a 1996 alumnus of the Purdue Varsity Glee Club. He holds bachelor's degrees in engineering, German and theater from Purdue and a master's degree in acting from UCLA. He assumes the post held by Brian Breed, who retired Dec. 31.

"Gerritt is very familiar with the history and traditions of Purdue Musical Organizations and the glee club," said Thomas B. Robinson, vice president for student services. "As a professional entertainer, he has a wealth of stage and performance experience. Gerritt was an excellent student leader when he was a member of the Purdue Varsity Glee Club, and we are looking forward to the enthusiasm and experience that he brings as he returns to Purdue."

VanderMeer said he is excited about working with the glee club and PMO staff.

"Purdue Musical Organizations is dedicated to the service of Purdue University, the community and audiences everywhere by promoting fellowship through song," he said. "Now in our 115th year, the Purdue Varsity Glee Club is proud to be part of that tradition. This semester we'll be performing in venues throughout the state of Indiana, across the country and overseas."

Jay Gephart, Purdue's director of bands, is leading a committee that will search nationwide for a new Purdue Musical Organizations director.

VanderMeer and his wife, actress Carolann Sanita, most recently lived in New York City.
