1. Are we looking for “moonshots?” 

a. Yes, but need a quick “win” within your moonshot. ?The wins should demonstrate successful take off to the moon. 

b. Have to be grounded on Purdue’s strengths. 

2. Are we looking for more federal funding? 

a. Yes. ?May not be grants, could be contracts. 

b. Other sources of funding will also be fine. ? The current funding is a seed fund that will enable us to go out and raise significant, long-term funding. 

3. Should these be program projects or center grants? 

a. Could be either. ?But Program projects are still small for moon shots. ?There are also other mechanisms like contracts. 

4. Can we Use currently funded grants to propose on? 

a. Yes. 

5. Can one person lead one,?and be a participant in others? 

a. Yes. 

6. Can projects be connected? 

a. Yes - but each project will be evaluated on its own merit. 

7. Can one person be involved in more than one proposal? 

a. Yes.

8. Can industry partners be involved in these idea proposals?

a. While industry partners cannot receive funds from this program, if the company will, under their own funds, contribute to advancing the proposed research under the leadership of Purdue faculty, that is allowable.

9. Can Institute Directors be leads on project and/or participants on projects and will that be a conflict of interest?

a. They can be leads and/or participants. That is not a conflict of interest as all Institute directors are also faculty.
