Health and Human Sciences honored five with Distinguished Alumni Award

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Five alumni of the College of Health and Human Sciences received the 2015 Distinguished Alumni Award.

The five recipients are Kathryn R. Burke, Rosalyn Franta Kulik, Janice C. Humphreys, David H. McFarland and Dennis J. Paustenbach.

* Burke, of Orland Park, Illinois, is the owner and physician of Burke Medical Group Ltd. She received both her associate degree in 1978 and bachelor's degree in nursing in 1980 from Purdue.

* Kulik, of Tampa, Florida, has retired from her positions as adjunct faculty at University of Tampa, private consulting and various roles at Kellogg Co. She earned both her bachelor's degree in 1972 in home economics education and master's degree in 1974 in foods and nutrition at Purdue.

* Humphreys, of Durham, North Carolina, is the associate dean for academic affairs at Duke University's School of Nursing. Humphreys obtained her bachelor’s degrees in nursing and psychology in 1976 from Purdue.

* McFarland, of Montreal, Canada, has been a professor at the University of Montreal since 1991 and was awarded the university-wide Teaching Award in 2010. McFarland received his doctorate degree in speech science and neuroscience in 1989.

* Paustenbach, of San Francisco, California, is the president and founder of ChemRisk LLC since 2003. Total, Paustenbach has received six different degrees including a bachelor's degree, two master's degrees, a doctorate, an honorary doctorate of science and an honorary doctorate of engineering. Purdue awarded him a doctorate in environmental toxicology in 1982 and an honorary doctorate of science in 2006.

The College of Health and Human Sciences honored the alumni and their contributions at a banquet on March 27.
