As Daniels arrives in Mumbai, Purdue launches Purdue-India website

October 28, 2015

As President Mitch Daniels arrives in Mumbai today (Oct. 28), Purdue's Office of Corporate and Global Partnerships is launching a new Purdue-India partnership website at www.purdue.edu/India, intended to serve as a clearinghouse for the University's activities with India.

Nearly 1,700 Indian students attend Purdue and more than 100 faculty of Indian origin are providing instruction and engaging in world-changing research on campus, making India a country of strategic importance to the University, says Suresh Garimella, Purdue executive vice president for research and partnerships and Goodson Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering.

"The Purdue-India relationship is deep and broad; a recent poll of faculty activity in India, for example, uncovered connections with approximately 45 colleges and universities throughout India," Garimella says. "Purdue is now focused on deepening partnerships with a number of these institutions, such as the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, with which President Daniels signed a partnership agreement in November 2014. Purdue also has a strong and growing alumni network in India and an increasing number of collaborations with Indian corporations."

The Purdue-India partnership website is meant to be a comprehensive resource for the Purdue community at large. Students, faculty, and alumni are invited to contribute content including information on upcoming events and programs at Purdue or at partner institutions in India by submitting events and news to PurdueIndia@purdue.edu
