Mya Hagerty Shares Campus Fountain Research at International Environmental Design Conference

Last week, HLA graduate student Mya Hagerty (Huang Lab) attended the international Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA) conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. In addition to co-presenting a poster with Assistant Professor Yiwei Huang, Mya presented her thesis research as part of the Graduate Student Mentoring Workshop for the second consecutive year.

Mya’s thesis, conducted through the HLA Landscape Systems & Design master’s program, focuses on environmental psychology through the lens of campus design. Using Purdue University as a case study, her research examines student experiences with artificial urban bluespaces, specifically large outdoor campus fountains. Employing a mixed-methods approach, Mya conducted in-person and digital post-occupancy evaluations, along with an online survey, to explore the potential salutogenic (health-promoting) effects of these spaces.

Mya is scheduled to defend her thesis later this summer. Congratulations on this exciting milestone and international recognition of your work!
