Fruit pruning workshop to be held at Purdue’s Meigs Farm

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Fruit growers have the opportunity to learn fruit pruning techniques from Purdue University horticulture specialists.

A fruit-pruning workshop will be held from 1-4 p.m. on March 9 at the Meigs Horticulture Research Farm, 9101 S. 100 E, Lafayette.

The workshop is hosted by Purdue Extension and will include pruning demonstrations on a variety of fruits such as grapes, apples, peaches and berries. Participants will have an opportunity to practice pruning apples, grapes and brambles. Equipment will be provided, but growers may bring their own pruning tools.

Many grape varieties were damaged in 2014 and retrained from the ground. Demonstrations on pruning those retrained vines and a discussion of pruning strategies to manage cold injury will be included.
