An Excerpt from the Article:

Jules Janick has been with Purdue so long that even some of his graduate students are now retiring. But at the age of 84, he is still contributing and going strong.

Janick (MS β€˜53, PhD β€˜54) was just 16 when he left his New York City home and ventured off to Cornell University in 1947. He entered Purdue as a graduate student in January 1951 and received his PhD at the age of 23.

Although he worked on the genetics of sex in spinach for his thesis, upon graduation he was offered a position as fruit breeder in the Purdue Department of Horticulture. Along the way, the James Troop Distinguished Professor of Horticulture has been a part in the creation of over 20 cultivars of apples and pears, many of which are being grown in Indiana and around the world.”
