CCED Team Showcases Decision-Support Tools for Climate-Resilient Midwest Agriculture

Shivika Aggrawal and Dr. Ana Hummes, members of Dr. Aaron Thompson’s lab in the Center for Community & Environmental Design (CCED), presented two decision-support tools for climate-resilient agriculture during a webinar hosted by the North Central Climate Collaborative (NC3) on October 26, 2026. The tools were developed through the Integrated Midwest Partnerships for Actionable Climate Tools and Training (IMPACT²), a USDA-NIFA funded project developed by multi-institutional and multidisciplinary collaboration to facilitate adoption of sustainable agricultural practices. The webinar also featured a presentation by IMPACT² team member Dr. Tracy Campbell of the Puerto Rico Association of Conservation Districts.

Aggrawal presented AgFutures of Midwest, a tabletop serious game that helps participants explore farm decision-making across diverse production systems and practices under different weather scenarios. Dr. Hummes introduced the ACRE (Agricultural Conservation for Resilient Environments) Portal, an interactive online platform for evaluating and comparing conservation practices. The portal provides information on production systems and conservation practices, along with case studies, to support informed farm planning and decision-making.

AgFutures of Midwest and ACRE Portal aim to help farmers, Extension educators, crop advisers, and conservation professionals evaluate adaptation strategies, manage risk, and strengthen farm resilience. Watch the webinar recording to learn more about IMPACT² and the featured decision-support tools.
