Last week, Ashley Adair hosted two field days affiliated with the Indiana Organic Network.
On August 5th, Ashley, Bryan Overstreet (CCSI), Lois Mann (CCSI) and county ANR educators Jeff Burbrink, Kathryn Jennings, Brieanna Slonaker, and John Woodmansee hosted the Northern Indiana Organic Forage Field Day in Middlebury, IN at Low Valley Farm. Ninety organic dairy producers from around the area participated in this event. Christian Krupke (Purdue Entomology) presented on organic management of alfalfa weevil and armyworm, and Luciana da Costa (Ohio State University) discussed organic fly prevention techniques. Elysia Rodgers (Purdue Extension – DeKalb County) led a pasture walk with farmer host Andy Mast (Low Valley Farm) and discussed forage quality.

On August 6th, Ashley, Bryan Overstreet, and county ANR Educator Mathias Ingle co-hosted the Farmer to Farmer Organic Field Day with Mike Stites, an organic grain producer in Kokomo, IN. The event attracted 113 participants from Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, and Indiana, and featured presentations from farmers in each of those states. The day also featured discussions on organic cultivation equipment and calibration techniques and networking with area organic ag exhibitors.
