How do we go about setting this up without T = rF. I don’t remember learning that in this class.
I assume you are asking how we get the torque at gear C. Yes, you can consider that there is an interaction force F_C between gear B and C.
When drawing the FBD of gear B, F_C points out of the screen, at the top of gear B. Then F_C will generate a torque as F_C*r_B;
When drawing the FBD of gear C, F_C points into the screen, at the bottom of gear C. Then F_C will generate a torque as F_C*r_C.
