When we see that a "torque is applied", like seen in this problem, are we supposed to just ignore the existence of whatever force must have also been present to produce this torque?
Yes, because it only shows a moment.
In the problem statement it says that the torque is counter-clockwise but the diagram shows M - my instructor told us to solve with the diagram.
