  1. I am struggling to understand where instant center is. I know the first construction line should be vertical along AB since it is perpendicular to Vb. I would then assume that the second construction line would run along DE because that is where it is perpendicular to Vd. I am confused because the IC would be far below the structure. Is this correct?

    1. The problem says to leave your answers for angular speeds in terms of w_ab. Since they don’t give a numerical value for this, you can not find a numerical value for the other angular speeds.

  2. How should we answer part a (where the location of IC_BD is)? Right now I am just saying it is x distance away in x direction from another point. Should I be defining a coordinate system instead?

  3. How do you find the velocity at point D? I have that omega_DE=|v_D|/|r_(D/E)|. Is the velocity of D expressed in terms of the velocity of B so omega_AB can be plugged in?

    1. I assume that you have already found the instant center for link BD. Let’s call that IC point “C”. Here are the steps:

      * v_B = |r_B/A|*omega_AB
      * omega_BD = v_B/|r_B/C| (CW)
      * v_D = omega_BD*|r_D/C|
      * omega_DE = v_D/|r_D/E| (CCW)
