Dr. Kris Acheson-Clair

Kris Acheson-Clair, PhD, is CILMAR’s director and holds a courtesy faculty appointment in the Brian Lamb School of Communication within the College of Liberal Arts. Her responsibilities include:

  • overseeing the strategic planning for CILMAR
  • management of Intercultural Learning Specialists and their projects
  • providing intercultural research support

Although CILMAR is the brain-child of the visionary vice president of Global Parternerships and Programs Michael A. Brzezinski, Kris has been largely responsible for operationalizing the CILMAR dream.

Tatjana Babic Williams

CILMAR Faculty Fellow, Senior Lecturer of Italian, Director of Italian Studies | Stanley Coulter Hall 128A

Tatjana Babic Williams, PhD, is a CILMAR faculty fellow and is a senior lecturer of Italian and the director of Italian Studies in the School of Languages and Cultures, College of Liberal Arts. Her responsibilities include:

  • organizing Purdue InterCultural Community of Practice (PICLCoP) events
  • developing intercultural learning curricula
  • consulting with faculty on curriculum mapping, embedding, and assessment of intercultural learning innovations

Senior Public Relations Consultant | Young Hall, Suite 120

Annette Benson, MS, is CILMAR's senior public relations consultant. Her responsibilities include:

  • external and internal stakeholder communication branding
  • management of the Intercultural Learning Hub (HubICL)

Because of her intimate connection with the HubICL from its earliest stages, she possesses a wealth of knowledge concerning interactive intercultural learning activities and assessments and often shares best practices in creating and sharing new ICL tools at conferences and workshops.

Alankrita Chhikara

Postdoctoral Research Associate l Young Hall, Suite 120

Alankrita Chhikara is CILMAR's Postdoctoral Research Associate. Her responsibilities include:

  • Curriculum development and assessment of learning in CILMAR
  • Coordinating and mentoring Semester Abroad in Intercultural Learning (SAIL) courses
  • Conducting research in the area of intercultural learning and competence

She obtained her Ph.D. from the Purdue College of Education in Curriculum Studies.

Little did she know that her association with CILMAR, after securing the COIL grant to offer an intercultural learning course, would become an enduring relationship. Alankrita went on to serve as a Graduate Assistant to design intercultural learning curriculum and assist in coordinating and mentoring the Semester Abroad in Intercultural Learning (SAIL) program before starting her current position.

Aparajita Jaiswal, PhD, is the intercultural research specialist at CILMAR. Her responsibilities include:

  • CILMAR Mini-Grants
  • research support - writing group and consultations
  • research collaborations

Aparajita extensively conducts research in the area of STEM education. As a CILMAR new hire she brings a perspective on integrating intercultural learning into the STEM curriculum.

Dan Jones

Senior Intercultural Learning Specialist | Young Hall, Suite 120

Daniel C. Jones, PhD, is a Senior Intercultural Learning Specialist at CILMAR. His responsibilities include:

  • overseeing intercultural mentoring for study abroad students in Semester Abroad in Intercultural Learning (SAIL) scholarship courses
  • providing intercultural training to faculty and staff in the Intercultural Pedagogy Grant (IPG) program
  • co-administering the Virtual Experiential Intercultural Learning (VEIL) Grant and Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) Grant programs

As a PhD candidate in German Literature, Dan began his intercultural career as the first Graduate Assistant in Intercultural Learning to Katherine Yngve, who at the time was the only Intercultural Specialist at Purdue University—making Dan the original GAIL. Having learned from the staff of International Programs, what would become the new Center for Intercultural Learning, Dan now manages his own GAILs and has helped, in his own way, to shape CILMAR and its mission.

Kelsey Patton

Intercultural Learning Specialist | Young Hall, Suite 120

Kelsey is an Intercultural Learning Specialist for CILMAR. Her responsibilities include:

  • Engaging students in intercultural learning opportunities within co-curricular spaces on campus
  • HubICL curation

After completing her BA in Communication and French, Kelsey began a career in international education, assisting students in their study abroad application process and then engaging alumni as they adjusted back to life in their home culture. There, she learned the importance of intercultural learning, debriefing, and mentorship and transitioned to graduate school at Purdue to pursue her Master's degree in Intercultural Communication and Mentorship.

Danielle Schiewer is the administrative assistant at CILMAR. Her responsibilities include:

  • creation and management of the IDI calendar
  • project management for the Janet Bennett Intercultural Library

Aletha Stahl

Lead Intercultural Learning Specialist | Young Hall, Suite 120

Aletha Stahl, PhD, is the senior intercultural learning specialist at CILMAR and is an affiliated faculty member in the Comparative Literature program, School of Interdisciplinary Studies, College of Liberal Arts. Her responsibilities include:

  • working with faculty on curricular needs assessments and intervention design
  • managing the faculty/staff program Growing Intercultural Leaders
  • developing curricula.

Following more than two decades as a faculty member at a small liberal arts college, Aletha came to Purdue to broaden her understanding of higher education and to deepen her knowledge and skillset of all things intercultural by partnering with faculty and staff as they mentor and teach.
