Recording available of Presidential Lecture Series event with Garry Kasparov

President Mitch Daniels on Sept. 14 hosted Garry Kasparov, Soviet-born chess champion and human rights advocate, as part of the Presidential Lecture Series. In an hourlong conversation in Loeb Playhouse, Daniels and Kasparov talked about Kasparov’s remarkable accomplishments, human rights advocacy and the values of promoting freedom globally. A recording of the event is now available.

In an evolving world, Purdue’s College of Education innovating new paths to success for K-12 teachers

Make no mistake. The pandemic has set the table for seismic shifts in teaching methods in America’s elementary and secondary schools. But the need to evolve in a hypercompetitive and increasingly data- and technology-driven world has long been there. A newly launched College of Education program called the Innovation Initiative, or I2, is responding to that change.

Nancy Decker

44 years, 5 presidents and 6 treasurers later, Nancy Decker to retire

Asked to reflect on her 44 years at Purdue, Nancy Decker doesn’t cite the projects she completed or university rankings. Instead, her story unfolds as a series of relationships built on a common commitment to the Boilermaker spirit. Decker, senior executive assistant in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, has worked at Purdue since 1977 and will retire Sept. 30.

Purdue celebrates dedication of Chaney-Hale Hall of Science

Members of the Purdue community celebrated the dedication of Chaney-Hale Hall of Science on Friday (Sept. 24). Chaney-Hale Hall, which opened in fall 2020, provides multidisciplinary laboratory classrooms for up to 15,000 undergraduates per year and optimizes hands-on learning across the University’s science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines.

A new and highly regarded national ranking by The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education places Purdue at No. 7 in the Best Value category, tops in the Big Ten. Purdue also was No. 10 among public institutions nationally in the ranking of best schools.

Purdue’s 2021 Homecoming festivities launch today (Sept. 27), leading up to Boilermaker football against Minnesota on Saturday (Oct. 2). Themed "Giant Leaps Home," this year’s festivities include opportunities to celebrate Homecoming both in person and from home.
