A Boilermaker supporter through and through, Mark Needham has been a loyal Purdue employee for over 30 years. Originally an employee of Purdue Memorial Union, Needham, now a Building Services crew chief, returned to Purdue in 1983 after a brief job change and has been here ever since.
Faculty and staff news
I share with you today the final report from our Ad Hoc Panel to Evaluate Security Feedback. As you know, this panel was formed following the tragic event of Jan. 21 in which our student Andrew Boldt was killed in a classroom in the Electrical Engineering Building.
Purdue graduate students with teaching responsibilities can learn more about how to use teamwork in their courses and get feedback on their presentation style during sessions sponsored by the Center for Instructional Excellence on Thursday (May 1).
The Office of Institutional Equity is offering faculty and staff the opportunity to participate in AccessU Summit 2014, a one-day online conference featuring some of the Web's most notable experts on accessibility. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions directly to the conference speakers.
The Office of Admissions is hosting a workshop for faculty and staff who may be interested in pursuing an undergraduate degree or who may have children who will be attending college in the near future.
Research news
Two new "cyberlearning" platforms allow non-artists to create illustrations rivaling the work of expert designers. The platforms sidestep a key creative barrier by eliminating the need for drawing skills in developing new designs.
General news
A Purdue research center committed to helping the next generation strengthen international development and solve the global food insecurity problem is awarding $608,341 in grants to graduate students at 19 U.S. universities.
Purdue will kick off a program in May that harnesses the excitement of auto racing to teach science, technology, engineering and math and promote STEM-related careers.
Douglas Brinkley's lecture from Purdue, "The Greatest Adventure: Neil Armstrong and the Moon Shot," will air on C-SPAN 3 at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday (May 4).
The College of Veterinary Medicine on May 12 will offer free eye exams for certified service dogs through the ophthalmology service of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
