'Boiler Bytes 3' to debut on BTN

"Boiler Bytes 3," a 30-minute video news magazine produced by Purdue, will premiere on the Big Ten Network at 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. today (Oct. 8).

The program, which has Purdue students as host and reporters, has five featured segments on topics including Professor J. Paul Robinson's climb to the summit of Mount Everest, Purdue Golden Girl MerriBeth Cox, and students who share the role of Purdue Pete. More

New aluminum-water rocket propellant promising for future space missions

Researchers are developing a new type of rocket propellant made of a frozen mixture of water and "nanoscale aluminum" powder that is more environmentally friendly than conventional propellants and could be manufactured on the moon, Mars and other water-bearing bodies.

The aluminum-ice, or ALICE, propellant might be used to launch rockets into orbit and for long-distance space missions and also to generate hydrogen for fuel cells, said Steven Son, associate professor of mechanical engineering. More
