J. Paul Robinson at the summit of Mount Everest

"Boiler Bytes 3," a 30-minute video news magazine produced by Purdue, will premiere on the Big Ten Network at 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. today (Oct. 8).

The program, which has Purdue students as host and reporters, has five featured segments on these topics:

* Purdue's 27th Golden Girl, MerriBeth Cox, who this year won the top U.S. national twirling competition, then took third in world.

* The Rube Goldberg Machine Contest of 2009, in which the task was to replace an incandescent light bulb with a more energy-efficient light-emitting device.

* The annual electric guitar-making workshop conducted by the College of Technology.

* Professor J. Paul Robinson's climb to the summit of Mount Everest to raise funds for AIDS research and awareness, and his work to create a testing device usable and affordable in Africa.

* Purdue Pete and what three of the students who share that role do to prepare for and act out the role.

"Boiler Bytes 3" also includes glimpses of Purdue Hero honorees Helen Bass Williams, Mindy Paulet and Brian Lamb.

The program will have other showings in later weeks.
