World Food Prize winner returns to Ethiopia

Ejeta in his home village

Gebisa Ejeta, winner of the 2009 World Food Prize for research leading to the increased production and availability of sorghum in Africa, recently traveled to his native Ethiopia.

An online journal written by Tom Campbell, Purdue Agriculture Connections managing editor, chronicles the trip that began July 24. In the photo at right, Ejeta, Distinguished Professor of Agronomy at Purdue, is greeted by hundreds of people as he visits the village in Ethiopia where he grew up.

Northwestern Avenue Garage fully open

The Northwestern Avenue Garage is in full use again after completion of the repair project in the south half. Traffic flow and parking space angles are back to their normal pattern. Restriping is being completed. Most signage is in place and some updated signage is on order. The south half's floor surfaces have a new, textured sealant. Plans are for application of that sealant in the north half next summer.

New residence hall to open at Purdue; tours available today

A new Purdue residence hall that has 365 student rooms with private baths and air-conditioning, and living rooms with flat-screen televisions for each cluster of 22 rooms, will open its doors Aug. 15 when students begin returning to campus. More

Compliment Guys make stop at 'Today' while on tour

The Compliment Guys, two Purdue undergraduates whose weekly campus compliment campaign gained international attention, will wrap up a 10-city tour on Friday (Aug. 7) in Rochester, N.Y. During the tour, Brett Westcott, a junior from Plainfield, Ill., and Cameron Brown, a junior from Toledo, Ohio, stopped at NBC's "Today" show. A video of their appearance is available here.

Farmers market to be held today near Dauch

Faculty and staff have two more opportunities to pick up fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, homemade crafts and other items at the farmers market on the West Lafayette campus. The market will be held 3-6:30 p.m. today and Aug. 13 at the corner of Sheetz and Wood streets, just west of the Dick and Sandy Dauch Alumni Center.

CSSAC to offer chocolate and wine tour

The Purdue Employees Activity Program, a subcommittee of the Clerical and Service Staff Advisory Committee, is sponsoring a chocolate and wine tour on Sept. 12. More
