Update: Traffic, parking disruptions

Here are notes on some current and upcoming disruptions on the West Lafayette campus.

-- Just east of campus, Vine Street's intersections with Fowler and Wiggins streets (U.S. 231) no longer will have traffic signals. The signals are to be removed by Aug. 15. Vine Street traffic will have stop signs but the crossing traffic on Fowler and Wiggins will not have to stop. Fowler is one-way westbound from the Harrison Bridge and River Road; Wiggins is one-way eastbound toward them. Caution by all motorists and pedestrians is in order as everyone adjusts. -- On University Drive north of Ross-Ade Stadium, from Victory Drive to Cherry Lane, the northbound lane is closed through Aug. 20. This is to allow for sidewalk relocation. Map: www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/travel/pdf/Univ_Dr_Vic_Cherry_Closure.pdf

-- In Stadium Mall, sidewalk closures and increases in construction traffic will occur through Sept. 18. Crews will be working on landscaping and irrigation projects and will be removing a section of the old Stadium Mall Drive. This is in the area near Neil Armstrong Hall of Engineering, the Purdue University Student Health Center, the Civil Engineering Building, Forney Hall of Chemical Engineering, Johnson Hall of Nursing, and the Heine Pharmacy Building. For questions or concerns, contact Wyatt Carmony at 49-66650 or 430-6858.

Reminders

-- Starting next week, the Purdue University Water Works staff will flush the potable water system each day from about 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. until the work is done. The water may be discolored for a short period of time. However, this will not affect the water quality. To remove the discoloration of the water, simply open a faucet for a few moments until the water runs clear. Be careful when driving on campus through or around spraying or standing water. Avoid parking next to or across from any of the fire hydrants. For questions or concerns regarding this project, contact Chris Marks, supervisor, at 49-62705.

-- Marsteller Street between the Marsteller Street Parking Garage (PGM) and the Agricultural Administration Building (AGAD) is reduced to one lane this week. Crews are installing a storm sewer for AGAD.

-- At Young Hall, access is temporarily limited due to the recladding project. Pedestrians may access the building via the underground passages from Purdue Memorial Union and area parking garages. For vehicles, temporary accessible parking is in the Wood Street Garage (across Grant Street) or in the lower-level parking garage west of Young Hall (entrance off Wood Street coming from Sheetz Street). Also, for this week, crews will be repairing the driveway at the north end of Young; they will work one half at a time to allow vehicles to use the driveway, but pedestrians will not have a place to cross. This overall project is expected to be complete by Sept. 4. More information can be found at www.purdue.edu/architect/about/construction/8660.htm

-- The F-Lot north of Mackey Arena along Northwestern Avenue has been relocated to the area directly east of Mollenkopf Athletic Center, north of the existing lot, as part of the Mackey Arena Project. In addition, major deliveries to the construction site are expected; be alert and cautious in the area.  People who park in the new F-Lot can access Mackey (MACK), the Intercollegiate Athletic Facility (IAF) including the Athletic Ticket Office, and Mollenkopf (MOLL) by using the sidewalk along the east side of Mollenkopf and IAF. The Mackey ramp will no longer be accessible to pedestrians. Fencing will be in place so that no one can enter mistakenly into any active construction zone. -- Northbound Northwestern Avenue and westbound Cherry Lane will have traffic disruptions and lane closures through late August. Beginning this week, the situation will involved lane restrictions at night. The City of West Lafayette will be performing work on the sanitary sewer and manholes. The disrupted area of northbound Northwestern will extend from Meridian Street to Cherry Lane. The disrupted area of westbound Cherry Lane will extend from Northwestern to the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. Map: www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/travel/pdf/NW_Cherry_sewer.pdf

-- Summer cleaning of parking garages has moved to its final area, the north half of the Northwestern Avenue Garage, and is to continue there through Aug. 11. Building Services will be cleaning the garage from 10:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly.
