Karen Plaut - December Dimensions of Discovery Introduction

December 21, 2023

Dear Colleagues,

Each month, Dimensions of Discovery highlights examples of cutting edge, Purdue-led research, but these of course tell only part of our impressive story. I know this because my role allows me to see the wide variety of life-changing research projects taking place across Purdue. So, as we head into the holiday break, I want to acknowledge the remarkable successes seen across the Purdue research enterprise during 2023.

From charting new paths in the life and health sciences, physical artificial intelligence and semiconductors to deepening our impact of  breakthroughs in so many research areas, together we have made enormous contributions towards meeting society’s most pressing needs. Through everyone’s dedication to innovation, Purdue’s global status as a leading research university has never been stronger. This is evident in record levels of research funding awarded to Purdue, our acquisition of three major research hubs, 18 NSF Early Career Awardees, one National Medal of Science winner and so much more, including the proud fact that so many of you have received distinguished awards, fellowships and other recognitions for your work.

So, as we close out this highly successful year, I want to thank all faculty and staff who have contributed to our success. You all help make Purdue, our state, the nation and the world better.

Happy holidays!
