Free concerts announced for Purdue Grand Prix

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Sol will perform a free concert with opening acts Pat App and Grey Lamb and Ghost Club on April 23 at Purdue University's France A. Cordova Recreational Sports Center.

This 7:30 performance is presented by the Purdue Student Concert Committee with support from the Student Fees Advisory Board, Purdue Student Union Board, and Purdue Student Government.

The performance is for Purdue students and their guests who are 18 and older as part of Grand Prix week activities. Admission is free with a Purdue ID and a canned food donation, or a monetary donation, for the Purdue Food Pantry. If attendees do not have a Purdue ID, they will need to be present with someone who does. Capacity for this performance will be limited to approximately 2,200 students and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Originally from Seattle, Washington, Sol's performances and diverse instrumentation has landed him among the leaders of the northwest music scene. His debut album, "The Ride," was released in 2009 and was followed by three free EPs. Sol also collaborates with other northwest hip-hop artists, including Macklemore, Blue Scholars and The Physics.

In 2012, Sol's second album, "Yours Truly," was released, and quickly rose to the top of the iTunes U.S. hip-hop chart, as well as charting on the Billboard Heatseekers and R&B Charts.

This performance will be a part of the Grand Prix activities that also include:

* Rock the Quad. April 19, 6:30 p.m. Slayter Hill

* Battle of the Bands. April 24, 8 p.m. to midnight. Purdue Engineering Mall
