The Purdue Board of Trustees announced Friday (June 10) its unanimous election of Dr. Mung Chiang, currently the John A. Edwardson Dean of Engineering and executive vice president for strategic initiatives, as the university’s next president. Chiang will replace current president Mitch Daniels effective Jan. 1, 2023. Daniels has served since January 2013.

Fields, the senior farm manager at Purdue’s Animal Sciences Research and Education Center, was recently recognized for his efforts with the 2022 MaPSAC Excellence Award.

Constant construction on your vacation route, jarring potholes during the winter and bridge collapses will continue until roads are “smart enough” to better prevent their own damage, says Luna Lu, a professor in the Lyles School of Civil Engineering. Lu is investigating unique ways to build artificial intelligence into concrete-paved bridges and highways, enabling them to prevent and repair their own damage.
