As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday and the end of in-person residential instruction on Nov. 24, Purdue is committed to helping students return home safely and helping any Boilermaker traveling over the holidays make a plan for COVID-19 testing before departure if desired.

Purdue scientist reflects on her passion for studying Mars’ geology, landscape

Briony Horgan grew up in Portland, Oregon, where, enjoying the mountains and volcanoes that surrounded the region, she developed a love of geology. A long-standing interest in space made Horgan realize she wasn’t confined to study rocks simply on Earth. Horgan, now an associate professor of planetary science at Purdue, soon will have an opportunity to let her imagination dive into the geology of Mars as part of the NASA Mars rover Perseverance mission, which recently passed the halfway point to Mars.

Purdue Student Farm adapts to meet challenges during COVID-19

The 2020 planting and harvesting seasons didn’t play out on the Purdue Student Farm quite as Chris Adair, farm manager, anticipated. Although COVID-19 presented challenges for the farm and its student workers, Adair said the team demonstrated innovation and quick thinking in adapting to unforeseen roadblocks.

The Conversation: Report shows how climate change affects the U.S. financial system

Jeffrey Dukes, a professor and director of the Purdue Climate Change Research Center, writes about a report released by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. The report says that climate change, partly by increasing the risks and severity of wildfires, hurricanes and other disasters, poses a threat that permeates the U.S. financial system. Dukes served on the subcommittee that wrote the report.
