Tickets are available for Purdue’s Giant Leaps Series event featuring Condoleezza Rice, the 66th U.S. secretary of state, on Oct. 9. The event, which is free with a ticket, is 6:30 p.m. at Elliott Hall of Music.

Purdue will use the days leading up to Homecoming 2019 to celebrate and thank the University community, alumni and friends for the past year in which the land-grant institution recognized its remarkable giant leaps while looking toward the future to address the world’s problems.

The planetary scientist who led NASA’s New Horizons mission, which successfully explored the Pluto system and is now exploring the Kuiper Belt – the farthest exploration in the history of humankind – will speak at Purdue on Oct. 10. Alan Stern will present “What If We Return to Pluto?” The Ideas Festival event is free but a ticket is required.

When Amanda Elmore graduated from Purdue, she went on to take a giant leap on an international stage by rowing in the 2016 Rio Olympics and winning gold as a part of the women’s eight. Elmore, a 2013 Purdue graduate in biological sciences and former member of the Purdue Crew team, is the first female Purdue Olympian to win a gold.
