Pilot study to investigate effects of non-academic apps on PAL connectivity

To address student and faculty concerns about the reliability of Purdue Airlink (PAL) connectivity in large classrooms, ITaP is conducting a pilot study of technology that will suspend access to five non-academic applications, all of them major bandwidth consumers, in four rooms when class is in session this fall.

Purdue's newest students already have made a little history on campus, establishing a new Guinness World Record on Wednesday (Aug. 15). A total of 5,527 students, participating in Boiler Gold Rush activities, shattered the record for most train whistles blowing at the same time.

It also was a Guinness World Record day for a faculty member. Chemical engineering professor Vilas Pol assembled the periodic table in 8 minutes, 36 seconds, setting the new record. Photos and video are available here.
