Large-classroom beacons, desktop layers of Purdue Alert to be retested today

Purdue emergency preparedness officials will retest the classroom beacons and desktop popup layers of the Purdue Alert system at 10:20 a.m. today (Jan. 27). Installed in most large classrooms (over 100 seats), the beacons sound for 10 seconds and flash for five minutes with text of the alert being issued. More than 30,000 computers on campus also may receive a desktop popup alert.

Happiness down to a science

Researchers within Purdue’s College of Health and Human Sciences often are concerned about finding a better way through daily lives — by way of psychology, health and wellness, financial fitness, and more. Some are focused on the direct links between our lives and the possibilities of happiness. Others are investigating matters more tangentially connected to what many would consider strategies for better living. In Life 360 magazine, five HHS researchers weigh in on causes and effects for happiness, as well as ways to measure it.
