A new package of Purdue magazine articles explains how the College of Agriculture is addressing issues of public controversy and preparing students to help resolve them in their careers:
* "When Research Becomes Controversial" -- Four researchers discuss their role in reporting their findings that sometimes put them in the middle of intense public debate on issues that elicit starkly opposing views from advocates on either side.
* "Cautious Consumers" -- A look into how the food industry could build public trust through greater transparency.
* "Issues in Agriculture" -- A look inside a classroom where students develop their skills to foster agreement on tough agricultural issues.
Faculty and staff news
The Purdue community is encouraged to join President Mitch Daniels and members of the emergency preparedness and security feedback panel for a President's Forum on Wednesday (April 30) in Purdue Memorial Union, South Ballroom. The forum, scheduled for 8-9 a.m., will focus on the final report and recommendations of the panel, which was formed after the Jan. 21 shooting on the West Lafayette campus.
Three candidates for the position of director of the Latino Cultural Center will present at forums, one late this week and two early next week.
The Purdue Climate Change Research Center has launched an internal search for a director. Details on the search are available here, and additional information about PCCRC is available on the center's website.
Staff members from the West Lafayette campus who have died during the past calendar year will be honored and remembered at a ceremony today (April 24).
People
Jon Harbor, professor of earth, atmospheric, and planetary sciences, was chosen as one of 31 fellows selected nationwide this year by the American Council on Education (ACE).

Four Purdue students who have developed an app that could streamline the process of ordering and paying for food at fast casual restaurants have been invited to present before Y Combinator, a prestigious international program for funding startups, when they travel to Silicon Valley next week.
Boiler Kids Camp -- an interactive, educational summer day camp for children ages 5 to 12 -- is ready to provide a safe and enjoyable environment this summer June 2-July 25. Registration is open for this Monday-Friday camp, presented by the Division of Recreational Sports.
