Purdue University Bands will host more than 90 high school and middle school big bands and jazz combos for a weekend of public concerts, clinics and competition at the 24th annual Purdue Jazz Festival.
Festival events begin today (Jan. 16) with a free Community Showcase Concert at 7:30 p.m. at the Long Center, 111 N. Sixth St., Lafayette. The concert will feature the Purdue Jazz Band, guest pianist/composer Steve Allee and jazz bands from McCutcheon High School, West Lafayette High School, Lafayette Jefferson High School and Harrison High School.
Faculty and staff news
Due to weather-related delays, Payroll Services will now mail 2013 W-2 forms by Jan. 31 to all employees' current addresses. The Internal Revenue Service will begin processing tax returns on Jan. 31.
Provost search committee seeking faculty, staff input
Purdue on Friday (Jan. 10) formally launched the search for its next provost with the naming and first meeting of a search advisory committee. Faculty and staff can provide comments and suggestions about the search to the president and the search committee by using a confidential email account at provostsearch@purdue.edu. General news
President Mitch Daniels will appear this morning (Jan. 16) on the "Daily Rundown with Chuck Todd" to discuss what Purdue is doing and what higher education institutions can do to enhance recruitment and achievement of lower-income students. Daniels will appear on the MSNBC program during the 9 a.m. hour.
Nineteen junior faculty members from Afghanistan have begun a nine-week program at Purdue to broaden their skills as teachers, gain insight into the U.S. system of higher education and increase mutual understanding between the people of both countries.

The Purdue men's tennis team is holding a Faculty and Staff Mixer on Friday (Jan. 17) and Campus Kids Day on Monday (Jan. 20).
Purdue's Schwartz Tennis Center will offer adult beginner and intermediate tennis clinics and weekly sign-up clinics. A list of the spring programs, which begin Monday (Jan. 20), is available at www.purduetennis.com.
