On the second floor of Hampton Hall, a museum-quality exhibit transports visitors to another realm -- the El Aguila Mine near Oaxaca, Mexico. The exhibit's purpose is to educate Purdue students and visiting youngsters about mining, says Steven Smith, K-12 coordinator for the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences (EAPS). The industry is infrequently discussed in science curricula, but its jobs are open to many with EAPS degrees.

More than one mile of marked bicycle routes will be added to the north academic area of the West Lafayette campus thanks to a Bicycle Task Force established by President Mitch Daniels earlier this month. These new marked bicycle routes represent a 58 percent increase in the total distance of marked campus routes and double the distance of marked routes available in the north academic campus area.

The academic program formerly known as the Undergraduate Studies Program has been renamed as Exploratory Studies, a name that its director says is more consistent with the program's mission.
Purdue has been awarded a Transformation grant from the National Science Foundation's Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP) program.
Indiana pumpkin producers overall were happy with production yield and prices this year, even with "two seasons" of drastically differing weather during the summer, a Purdue plant pathologist says.
