Purdue's 2013 United Way campaign began Tuesday (Sept. 10) when Purdue chairs and United Way representatives from Greater Lafayette came together to support the cause. The annual kickoff was held this year at the Beck Agricultural Center. The 2013 campaign theme is "Move Forward ... Give Back."
Faculty and staff news
The Purdue community is invited to join President Mitch Daniels for a President's Forum from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 12) in Purdue Memorial Union, South Ballroom. Daniels and panelists are scheduled to discuss the drug discovery and plant science initiatives. The forum also will be live streamed at www.kaltura.com/tiny/z0mgo.
A test of the Purdue Alert emergency notification is scheduled for 11 a.m. today (Sept. 11).
Clients who are about to go to their first appointment at the Center for Healthy Living may now complete the customary patient questionnaire beforehand. The form asks for general information, such as the client's name, address and age, and it then gathers the client's health history.
The Sentinel -- the Administrative and Professional Staff Advisory Committee's monthly newsletter -- was distributed to A/P staff members last week. A copy of the newsletter can be found here.
The "5 Students Who ..." website will continue to feature Purdue students this year but with a new central theme, "5 Students Who Move the World Forward," rather than focusing on a different theme each month. Nominations for the November edition are due Friday (Sept. 13) and should be made at https://marketing.purdue.edu/5students.
Research news
Purdue researchers are working with the U.S. Army Research Laboratory to develop a technology for creating parts out of interlocking segments produced using 3-D printing to repair vehicles and other equipment in the field.
General news
She had no faculty, no students, no funding -- just a simple idea for a nursing program that would train excellent nurses at a time when there was an overwhelming demand for more.
When Helen R. Johnson came to Purdue in 1962 to create the University's first nursing program, she had little more than that plan. For the next 18 years, she was the driving force behind the success of nursing education at Purdue.
Much of Indiana's once-thriving corn crop continues to deteriorate as hot, dry conditions continue their stranglehold on much of the state, a Purdue Extension corn specialist says.
A Purdue online series that began Tuesday (Sept. 10) gives consumers an up-close look at Indiana wines and shows them what goes into taking the grapes from vine to bottle.
