Headliners, competition spark
23rd Purdue Jazz Festival

Two jazz giants -- saxophonist Jeff Coffin, a three-time Grammy Award winner with Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, and trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis from the jazz world's legendary Marsalis family -- add luster to the 2013 Purdue Jazz Festival, scheduled for Thursday through Saturday (Jan. 17-19).

Mitch Daniels

Daniels begins Purdue presidency

Mitch Daniels officially begins his term as Purdue's 12th president today (Jan. 14) at the conclusion of his term as governor of the State of Indiana. Purdue's Board of Trustees unanimously selected Daniels for the position in June after a yearlong search.

W-2s will show value of Purdue health insurance

Employees will see the value of their 2012 Purdue health care coverage reported on their 2012 W-2 forms. The Affordable Care Act requires employers to report the cost of coverage provided under an employer-sponsored group health plan. For 2012, the amount is being reported to the Internal Revenue Service for informational purposes only.

Purdue Alert test set for Thursday

Purdue will test its emergency notification system, including sirens, at 10 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 17). The test will be used to ensure that the system's various layers are working properly and to simulate a live situation for practice, says Ron Wright, emergency preparedness director.

Global Policy Research Institute seeking policy briefs

The Global Policy Research Institute is accepting submissions of policy briefs for its Policy Briefs Incentive Award Solicitation. Details are available in a PDF file, and an information session is scheduled for 11 a.m.-noon on Jan. 17 in Brown Laboratory of Chemistry, Room 3106. PURR provides a campus hub for research data management

The Purdue University Research Repository (PURR) helps researchers meet the requirements of funding agencies for data management plans by giving Purdue faculty, graduate students and staff an online hub they can use for collaborating on research and publishing and archiving data sets.

Eleanor O. Kaplan Award accepting nominations

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2013 Eleanor O. Kaplan Award for Exceptional Customer Service.

'5 Students Who ...' nominations wanted

Faculty and staff are encouraged to nominate students they consider Magic Makers for the April "5 Students Who ..." website. Deadline for nominations is Friday (Jan. 18).

Expert: Junior Seau CTE was not caused by concussions

A football concussion researcher says the CTE damage discovered in the brain of deceased NFL All-Pro linebacker Junior Seau was likely not caused by concussions, but rather by an accumulation of thousands of subconcussive blows to the head.
