Community Assistance Program, director connect with area through service learning

The word "no" is the same across many languages. Cecilia Tenorio, director of the Community Assistance Program in the College of Liberal Arts, knows this. Yet Tenorio, a certified translator and interpreter, has trouble using it.
Tenorio, from Buenos Aires, Argentina, is a self-proclaimed workaholic. A former journalist, she holds a master's degree in both Latin American literature and Spanish from the Argentine Catholic University. She has worked as a journalist in international news for more than 10 years in Argentina, Mexico and the United States and helped start the Spanish edition of the Journal and Courier in Lafayette.
Tenorio has been teaching SPAN 415, Introduction to Translation and Interpretation, for the past two and a half years, and in January, she helped launch the Community Assistance Program. More

President's Forum set for Friday
Faculty and staff are invited to attend a President's Forum from 9-10 a.m. Friday (Nov. 20) in the South Ballroom, Purdue Memorial Union. President France A. Córdova will open the forum with remarks, and Board of Trustees chairman Keith Krach also will speak. In addition, Dean Mark Smith will highlight the work of the Purdue Graduate School, and Al Diaz, executive vice president for business and finance, treasurer, will give an update on the budget.

Purdue receives 400 doses of H1N1 vaccine
The Purdue Student Health Center has received 400 doses of H1N1 vaccine through the Tippecanoe County Health Department. The Health Center also reported that the supply of seasonal flu vaccine has been exhausted and that no additional supplies are expected to be available this year. Conversations on Teaching session to be held Thursday
Purdue's Teaching Academy will hold a Conversations on Teaching session titled "Students & Courses in the Year 2020" from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 19) in the Anniversary Drawing Room, Purdue Memorial Union. The Conversations on Teaching sessions are designed to address timely issues relative to learning and the classroom, and are delivered by various members of the Purdue faculty. More
ITaP offers course in easy interactive virtual environment creation
A training course covering Vizard 3.0 will be offered at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 17 and Dec. 1 by ITaP's data visualization facility, the Envision Center for Data Perceptualization. Vizard is a virtual reality programming and development platform that allows novice to expert users to easily create 3-D environments, computer controlled avatars and interactive activities. More
SharePoint administrators' user group meets Tuesday
The newly reconvened cross-campus SharePoint administrators' user group will meet for demonstrations and a question-and-answer session from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 17) in Room 1142, Lawson Hall. Those who don't currently use the service are invited. SharePoint is a Web-based collaboration platform incorporating document management, versioning and workflow and functions for searches, wikis and blogs. More
