IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Apollo 11 anniversary

On July 20, 1969, Purdue alumnus Neil Armstrong took his famous "small step" into history as the first human to set foot on the moon. As the 40th anniversary approaches, Purdue Today will highlight Purdue research aimed at future lunar missions, share faculty and staff memories of the lunar landing, and provide details about how the University is marking the anniversary.

Purdue to launch Web site to mark 40th anniversary of Apollo 11

New Web site

Purdue will commemorate the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11 with the launch of a Web site that delves into the lunar mission as well as into the University's role in space exploration. The 40th anniversary site will be at www.purdue.edu/space starting Tuesday (July 14). The site will feature remarks from President France A. Córdova on the anniversary, information on the University's 22 alumni astronauts, and details about Purdue air and space history. Visitors to the site also will find information on Purdue space research and photos from the Apollo 11 mission.

Purdue research concentrates on design of rocket engine design

At Purdue's Maurice J. Zucrow Laboratories, a research team led by William Anderson is conducting experiments that will help NASA build rocket engines that will be used for human space exploration after the space shuttle program ends in 2010. More
