Professors to discuss their research at today's McCoy Distinguished Lectures

Two Purdue researchers in chemistry and bioscience will present this year's McCoy Distinguished Lectures today (Sept. 23). Scott McLuckey, the John A. Leighty Distinguished Professor of Analytical Chemistry, will speak on "Ion/Ion Reactions in the Gas Phase: New Chemistry for Bioanalysis" at 1:30 p.m. in Stewart Center's Fowler Hall. Richard Kuhn, the Gerald and Edna Mann Director of the Bindley Bioscience Center at Discovery Park and professor and head of the Department of Biological Sciences, will speak on "Pursuing Dengue Virus: A 21st Century Scourge" at 3:30 p.m. More

Purdue will test its emergency notification system Sept. 30 as part of the Department of Homeland Security's annual National Preparedness Month. More

Interactive technology could help students feel what can't be seen

Haptic interface
Equations or graphs can explain what happens when atoms bump into each other, but a technology called haptics could help students know how it feels. A Purdue researcher says haptic, or force-feedback, technology can be used in a variety of classroom subjects, especially in the sciences. More

Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright to headline cancer colloquium

Purdue Theatre to present 'You Can't Take It With You'

Purdue's Division of Theatre will stage the Pulitzer Prize-winning play "You Can't Take It With You" beginning Friday (Sept. 26) at the Nancy T. Hansen Theatre in Yue-Kong Pao Hall of Visual and Performing Arts, 552 W. Wood St. Written by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, the play is a heartwarming comedy of epic distortion, said director Richard Sullivan Lee. More

Bioethics Seminar to examine animal-related issues

The Bioethics Seminar series will feature two public talks and two seminars this fall at Purdue. The series, Ethics and Science: Bringing an Ethical Dimension to Your Scientific Research, is encouraging interdisciplinary discussion about research issues related to emerging biotechnologies and animal ethics, says Mark Bernstein, the Joyce and Edward Brewer Chair in Applied Ethics, who is working with graduate student series organizers. More
