Public invited to explore new anthropology department

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The public is invited to learn more about anthropology and archaeology at the Oct. 8 open house for Purdue University's new Department of Anthropology.

The open house, which is free and open to the public, is noon to 3 p.m. in Stone Hall, Room 219. The official opening ceremony will take place at noon. The open house is part of Experience Liberal Arts, a monthlong celebration highlighting programs in the College of Liberal Arts.

There will be demonstrations and displays in the hallway, labs and offices on the west end of Stone Hall's second floor. Purdue's archaeologists, biological anthropologists and cultural anthropologists will be available to talk with visitors. Light refreshments also will be served.

October's Experience Liberal Arts will feature a variety of lectures, films, performances, events and exhibits that reflect the college's ongoing coursework and research in the arts, humanities, and social and behavioral sciences.
