Boilermaker women win first-round game, to play top-seed Tennessee on Tuesday

Purdue beat Utah, 66-59, on Sunday night to advance to the second round of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament. The Boilermakers now will play Tennessee at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Mackey Arena. More

Appointments, honors and promotions

-- Sandra Howarth is the new director of development for the College of Science.
-- Christina Landon will be an information systems data analyst at Purdue, effective March 24.
-- Shari Schrader, director of development for the School of Chemical Engineering, has accepted the position of director of advancement for the College of Technology, effective April 7.
-- Javier Magallanes, who has served as the director of development for the President’s Council and the Latino Cultural Center, has accepted the position of director of development for the College of Science, effective March 24.
-- Jay Gephart, director of Purdue Bands and director of the "All-American" Marching Band, was elected to membership in the American Bandmasters Association during its annual convention held in Miami.
-- Sandy Amass, a professor of the School of Veterinary Medicine, received the Meritorious Service Award from the American Associations of Swine Veterinarians.
-- LaVerne Abe Harris, an associate professor of computer graphics technology, received the Educator of the Year Award from the Electronic Document Systems Foundation, an international, nonprofit organization dedicated to the document management and graphic communications marketplace.
-- Scott Ksander, the executive director of IT networks and security at Purdue, is a nominee for the Executive Alliance's Information Security Executive of the Year Central Awards 2008.

Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra to explore Beethoven's 'Eroica'

Helsinborg Symphony Orchestra
The Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, one of Scandinavia's leading orchestras, and artistic director Andrew Manze will take on the roles of musical detectives when they perform Beethoven's 'Eroica' Symphony at 7:30 p.m. April 1 in Purdue's Elliott Hall of Music.

The concert, titled "The Eroica Effect: Inside Beethoven's Third Symphony," is presented by Purdue Convocations and is the last performance in a three-part Convocations series called "Listening to Ludwig: Beethoven Masterworks Revealed." More
