School of Nursing conference to feature Bernie Siegel, M.D.

The Purdue School of Nursing will be hosting Love, Magic, & Mudpies, a Conference on Mental Health Promotion for Children and Families, on Monday, April 21, in Loeb Playhouse. All Purdue faculty and staff are invited to attend this conference which will feature Bernie Siegel, MD, as the keynote speaker.

Siegel is a physician, author, motivational speaker and advocate for individuals facing the challenges of all chronic illnesses. His message of hope and love is extended to all who seek a whole person approach for living life fully each day.

His books include “Love, Medicine & Miracles,” “Peace, Love & Healing,” “How To Live Between Office Visits,” “Prescriptions for Living,” “Help Me To Heal,” “365 Prescriptions For The Soul,” “Smudge Bunny,” “101 Exercises For The Soul,” and “Love, Magic & Mudpies.”
 
Other conference speakers will include:
*        Sally Downham Miller, PhD, a leading grief and recovery expert, and author of “Mourning and Dancing” and “Mourning and Dancing for Schools.” She is also principal of Happy Hollow Elementary School in West Lafayette, IN;
*       Kimble L. Richardson, MS, LMHC, LCSW, LMFT, a Physician and Referral Liaison at St. Vincent Stress Center, Indianapolis. He holds an appointment by the governor to the state licensure board for social workers, marriage and family therapists and mental health counselors and currently is the board president and administrative law judge;
*        Bernie Seaman, the current chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Mental Health America of Tippecanoe County. Seaman will tell her story of her son’s battle with attention deficit disorder and subsequent depression, leading to his suicide at the age of 23; and
*      Julie Novak, DNSc, RN, MA, CPNP, FAANP. Professor and Head, Purdue University School of Nursing; Associate Dean, College of Pharmacy, Nursing and Health Sciences; Director, Purdue School of Nursing Clinics, and KySS Project Director.
 
Attendance is limited for this conference and registration is on a first come and paid, first served basis. The registration fee for this conference is $50 for Purdue faculty and staff. This conference is free of charge to Purdue students (lunch not included), registration is required.
