CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS — DEADLINE SEPT. 10

The Michigan Institute for Data Science (MIDAS) invites submission of abstracts for the 2018 U-M Data Science Research Symposium that will take place on October 8-9.

As the focal point of data science at U-M, MIDAS advances cross-cutting data science methodologies and their applications, as well as data science education.  The annual symposium is the largest data science research event on U-M campus and aims to bring together data science methodologists, applied data scientists, students and industry partners, catalyzing and supporting innovative ideas and teams.  Abstracts are welcome in all of the following areas: theoretical foundations of data science; methodology and tools for data science; real-world applications of data science in any research domain; the ethics and societal impact of data science.  Trainees are welcome to submit and student posters will be automatically entered in the poster competition.

Submission Deadline: September 10, 2018.  Please submit your abstract online.

Submission Format and Procedure: Please include a title, list of authors/presenters and their affiliations.  At least one author should have a U-M affiliation.  The main body of the abstract should be no more than 300 words, and should include a brief summary of the research, methods, main results and impact. Please do not include figures, tables and bibliography in the abstract.  Please indicate whether you prefer an oral presentation or poster.  Oral presentations will be 15 minutes in length and may consist of one or multiple presenters. The review committee will try its best to accommodate your preference.  Teams will be notified by September 17th.
